The Latin quote on the back of the team shirts this season was “Tibialia Tuum Mereri”.
Loosely translated, that means “Earn Your Socks”. It relates to a tradition begun in
the 2006/7 season by then team captain and state placer Nate Monk, who wore tie
dyed knee socks to the Region tournament. The coaches have carried on that tradition
each year since by awarding tie dyed socks and/or t-shirts to those wrestlers who place
in the Districts and make it to “The Regions”. This year eleven of fourteen varsity wrestlers
earned their socks!

LOOKING FOR WRESTLING ALUMNI
A search of DeLand High School yearbooks shows that Wrestling was added as a Varsity Sport in the 1972/3 school year. But other than a page or two in each of the following yearbooks we do not know much about the teams that preceded current Head Coach Jason Baker.
The 2008/9 DeLand Bulldog Wrestling Season was, as far as we know, the best in school history. The team won the Five Star Conference Championship for the first time and sent five wrestlers to the FHSAA State Tournament. This year may be even better!
As part of the coming season we are working on "A History of Wrestling at DeLand High School". If you were a Wrestler or "Wrestlerette" and can contribute information on your years as part of the team, such as names of coaches and wrestlers, records, conference, district, region and/or state place winners, we need your help.
If you have information to contribute to our research, please contact me at bonzo1114a@aol.com or call 321-945-7500. Thank you for your help.
