Bulldog Wrestling 2012/2013
The DeLand Bulldogs had some excellent individual accomplishments in the 2012/2013 season. But, giving up as many as 24 points in some dual meets, due to vacant weight classes, the team’s dual meet record was only 13 – 14.
The Bulldogs placed 17th at the Bill Scott Lyman Holiday Tournament and 10th at the Flagler Rotary. “The Chunk” trophy, a competition between cross town rivals, was won by the University Titans, of Orange City, by a score of 49 – 19. The team placed 3rd at the 5 Star Conference, 4th at the Districts, 8th at the Regions and 23rd at “The States”.
A number of individuals had outstanding seasons:
At 97 lbs., Sophomore Hope Dargan won a revenge match at the “Girls States”, defeating the defending state champion, to take the first State Wrestling Championship in school history!
At 113 lbs., Sophomore Logan Wishart overcame injuries from a run in with a car on a training run, in the spring of 2012, to make it back for the season, posting a fine 25 – 15 record.
At 132 lbs., Junior Justin Folsom posted an excellent 38 – 12 record, placing in the 5 Star, District and Region Tournaments, sending him on to “The States” at Lakeland.
At 138 lbs., Sophomore Daniel Baker showed huge improvement posting a 24 – 18 record and placing in both the 5 Star and the District tournaments.
At 145 lbs., Senior Christian “Hollywood” Lohsen wrestled to a school record 50 – 3 season, won the Flagler Rotary, repeated as Champion of the 5 Star, District, and Region tournaments and placed 3rd at “The States”. He also set records for most pins (34) & most team points (265) in a season and most career wins (151).
At 152 lbs., Senior Shelby Watford finished the season with a 31 – 14 record with championships at both the 5 Star & the District tournaments and qualified for the Regions.
At 182 lbs., first year Junior Iryan Sanchez came off football and filled an empty weight class, posting a record of 15 – 12 and placed in both the 5 Star and District tournaments.
At 285 lbs., second year Senior Patrick Clark also came off football and posted a 21 – 14 record and placed in both the 5 Star and District tournaments.
With ten “starters” returning, plus a number of underclassmen and incoming freshmen, the Bulldogs should improve on last year’s record. Look for Montana Barker, Cameron Rocco, Elliot Simon, Tucker Stone, Greg Twyford and Dominic Walker to have an impact on the lineup.
